Rebecca Contreras, AvantGarde, LLC President & CEO, Appointed to National Women’s Business Council
The National Women’s Business Council (Council) is a non-partisan federal advisory council created by Title IV of the Women’s Business Ownership Act of 1988 to serve as an independent source of advice and counsel to the Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) on issues of impact and importance to women business owners, leaders and entrepreneurs. The Act, referred to as “The Big Bang of Women’s Entrepreneurship in America,” along with the efforts of the Council, have been pivotal in removing barriers and tapping into the untapped goldmine of US women entrepreneurs who today number 10 million, and nearly 40% of all businesses.
This is a tremendous honor for Rebecca, who realized her dream of starting her own business when she co-founded AvantGarde, LLC in 2011. Rebecca recognizes the significant role that mentorship and support played in overcoming personal challenges on her path to success. This is why she is so proud to serve with other highly-accomplished members of the Council to promote, coordinate and assist with public and private sectors plans, programs and operations that affect the ability of women-owned business enterprises to obtain capital and credit and also to contribute to new initiatives, policies, programs, and plans designed to foster women’s business enterprise. The Council reports annually on its activities and recommendations dedicated to developing women-owned small business recommendations to the SBA Administrator.
